The company started in 1980 as a concert series inside St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Church on Montague Street, putting on shows to pay for repairs to the building. It moved into a former spice mill in DUMBO in 2000 and booked David Bowie, Lou Reed, Joe Strummer and Nick Cave alongside its theater work. In 2015 it took the roofless brick shell of an 1860s tobacco warehouse on the waterfront and built a theater inside the surviving walls, leaving the ruined masonry standing.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
