Smyrna tears down its downtown and builds a new one
2002
Smyrna, Georgia

Smyrna calls itself the Jonquil City for the flowers that come up along its streets in early spring. Starting in 1991 the city borrowed heavily to replace a fading commercial strip with a new library, community centre, city hall and police station, then added the Market Village shops and flats in 2002. It became the template other metro Atlanta suburbs copied for mixed use downtowns. Union troops overran Confederate rifle pits on this ground on 4 July 1864.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
