Shell started up an ethane cracker and three polyethylene plants on this riverbank in November 2022, the first large American petrochemical complex built outside the Gulf Coast in decades. It turns Marcellus shale gas into 1.6 million tons of plastic pellets a year. Building it was the biggest industrial project in Pennsylvania since the Second World War, with more than 9,000 trades workers on site at the peak.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
