Selby's orchids on the bay
1975
Sarasota, Florida
CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
Marie Selby left her bayfront house and grounds to be a botanical garden, and it became the only one in the world devoted primarily to epiphytes, orchids, bromeliads and ferns that live on other plants without harming them. Its herbarium holds tens of thousands of specimens and its scientists describe new species from Andean cloud forest most years.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
