Pablo Sala subdivided land along the Company Canal in 1892 and called it Salaville. In October 1893 the Cheniere Caminada hurricane killed roughly 2,000 people on the coast, still the deadliest storm in Louisiana history, and surviving Barataria Bay fishing families came up the canals they already used to bring their catch to market and settled here. The wider settlement took the name Westwego from the Texas and Pacific Railway terminus.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
