Before this ground existed, people living north of the Charles were carried into Boston and buried at Copp's Hill. A smallpox epidemic in 1690 ended that: Boston ordered its victims from this side of the water buried on this side of the water. Joshua Cheever and the town of Chelsea agreed in 1743 to make the Butler Street land a burying place, and he deeded it over in 1751. It was listed on the National Register in 2004.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
