Rough Point, Doris Duke's house with the camels
1891
Bellevue Avenue, Newport, Rhode Island

Doris Duke inherited it at twelve along with the rest of a tobacco fortune, and kept it as a working house rather than a showpiece: her own art, her own furniture, and two camels she was given in the 1980s that lived on the lawn. It opened as a museum exactly as she left it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
