Roosevelt's midnight ride from Tahawus
1901
Tahawus, New York
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The vice president was told McKinley would recover and went climbing Mount Marcy. A guide reached him on the trail with a telegram saying otherwise, and he came down and rode thirty-five miles of mountain road by buckboard through the night, changing horses three times in the dark, to catch a train at North Creek. He was told at the station that he was president.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
