Built to teach, it arrived at nearly everything else first: message boards, group chat, instant messaging, screen-sharing, multiplayer games, emoticons, and a flat-panel plasma display years before anyone else shipped one. Students on the system in the seventies were doing things the rest of the world would not do until the nineties, and several of them went on to build the companies that did.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
