The painter who would teach Cézanne and Gauguin grew up above his family's shop on Main Street, the son of a Sephardic Jewish merchant, drawing the harbour and the market women. He left for Paris at twenty-five. The house is still there and the synagogue his family attended still has a sand floor.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
