Pilot Knob and the 1851 treaty

The Dakota call this bluff Oheyawahe, the hill much visited, and buried their dead on it. They signed away 24 million acres here in 1851, most of southern Minnesota, after being told at the table that traders' claims would be paid out of the money first.
