Divers and a Miami newspaperman spent years arguing that coral could be owned and protected, against a trade that was dynamiting the reef and selling it as souvenirs. The result was the first undersea park in the world. A bronze Christ of the Abyss stands in twenty-five feet of water off the reef, sunk in 1965 and now grown over.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
