Peck High School and Everybody Plays the Fool
1972
Fernandina Beach, Florida
Ken Williams was born in Fernandina Beach in 1939 and studied music at Peck, the county's high school for Black students, which grew out of Nassau Colored School Number 1 under a principal named William Henderson Peck who ran it for fifty years. Williams joined the Air Force, started a vocal group while stationed in Montana, then went to New York and wrote for a publishing house. Everybody Plays the Fool, written with J. R. Bailey and Rudy Clark, went to number three on the Hot 100 for The Main Ingredient in 1972, and Aaron Neville had a hit with it all over again.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
