Otis Redding wins the Douglass talent show until they ban him

Charles Douglass, a Black businessman, built this theatre in 1921 for a circuit that let Black performers work the South, Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey and Cab Calloway all played it. Otis Redding won its Sunday talent show fifteen weeks running as a teenager, at five dollars a time, until the management asked him to stop entering.
