Three days that introduced America to Jimi Hendrix, who set his guitar alight and knelt over it, and to Janis Joplin, and gave Otis Redding a white audience six months before he died. Almost everyone played for expenses. It was run as a charity, filmed properly, and became the template every festival since has copied, Woodstock included.
