The King Iron Bridge Manufacturing Company put this truss over Hickory Creek in 1884 at a spot that had long been a cattle ford. It is named for Alton, which was the seat of Denton County from 1850 to 1856 and no longer exists. Cars used the bridge until 2001, when traffic was moved to a concrete span alongside. It is better known locally as Goatman's Bridge, after a ghost story attached to it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
