Mountain View Cemetery, where Richard Feynman and Octavia Butler are buried
1882
Altadena, California
Opened in 1882 on the slope below the San Gabriels, this 60-acre cemetery holds more than 70,000 graves, from Pasadena's founding families to a section of Civil War veterans. Two of its residents changed how people think. Richard Feynman, the Caltech physicist who shared the 1965 Nobel Prize for quantum electrodynamics, was buried here in 1988. Octavia E. Butler, the Pasadena-born author of Kindred and Parable of the Sower, followed in 2006.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
