Mountain Meadows Massacre

During war panic, a Mormon militia besieged a wagon train from Arkansas, promised safe passage under a white flag, then killed about 120 emigrants, sparing only children too young to testify. One man was executed for it twenty years later. The church acknowledged responsibility in 2007.
