The smallest state capital in America, about eight thousand people, and the only one with no McDonald's. There is no ordinance against it. The market just never made the case, and the town has long since adopted the absence as an identity. The gold dome overlooks a downtown of bookstores and co-ops that looks precisely how you would draw Vermont from memory.
