MiniBooNE and the neutrino events that should not be there

Fermilab aimed a beam of muon neutrinos at a tank holding 800 tons of mineral oil, watched by 1,280 photomultiplier tubes, to test a strange result from a Los Alamos experiment. Running from 2002, it kept finding more electron-like events than the Standard Model allows, and by 2018 the excess had reached 4.8 sigma. The simplest explanation would be a fourth kind of neutrino that ignores everything but gravity. A later detector on the same beamline ruled out electrons as the whole story, and the excess is still unexplained.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
