Miami Central High put Obama and Jeb Bush on the same stage

Central opened in 1959 and named its teams the Rockets for the space program that was just starting up. For decades it sat near the bottom of the county's school rankings, until a turnaround that replaced the principal and much of the staff began moving its numbers. On 4 March 2011 President Obama came to the school with his education secretary and with Jeb Bush, the Republican former governor of Florida, an appearance the two men made together at a time when almost nothing else brought them to the same room.
