Merck's West Point plant and forty vaccines
1957
West Point, Upper Gwynedd Township, Pennsylvania
Merck's research and manufacturing complex fills this unincorporated corner of Upper Gwynedd Township. Maurice Hilleman arrived in 1957 to run virus and cell biology research and stayed forty five years, and the vaccines developed under him here include those for measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, hepatitis B and meningitis. More than forty vaccines are credited to his career, most of the work done on this ground.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
