Meijer and the supercentre

Hendrik Meijer, a Dutch barber, opened a grocery during the Depression and his son put general merchandise under the same roof in 1962, arguably the first supercentre, years before Walmart tried it. Fred Meijer later gave the city a sculpture park with a Rodin and a Chihuly.
