Marx Toys
1955
Glen Dale, Marshall County, West Virginia
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
For decades the largest toy maker on earth ran its main plant here, turning out tin trains, Rock em Sock em Robots and, in 1969, the Big Wheel, which put a generation of American children eight inches off the ground going far too fast. Louis Marx's rule was volume over novelty and low prices over everything. The plant closed in 1980 and the town keeps a museum of what it made.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
