Lucky Lady II flies around the world without landing
1949
Carswell Field, Fort Worth, Texas
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
A B-50 Superfortress took off from Carswell Air Force Base on 26 February 1949 and landed back on the same runway 94 hours later, having covered 23,452 miles without once touching down. Four aerial refuellings over the Azores, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines and Hawaii kept it in the air. The fourteen men aboard flew in shifts and every one of them received the Distinguished Flying Cross. Carswell became a Navy reserve base in 1998.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
