Long builds the tallest capitol in America

As governor he pushed through a 450-foot limestone tower, thirty-four storeys, still the tallest state capitol in the country, and had it finished in fourteen months. It was of a piece with the rest: free schoolbooks, a charity hospital system, thousands of miles of paved road and bridges in a state that had almost none, paid for by taxing the oil companies and running the legislature as a personal instrument.
