The Iowa State Capitol
1886
Des Moines, Iowa
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
The only five-domed capitol in the country, the central one covered in 23-carat gold leaf thin enough that the whole job used a few pounds of gold. It took a decade to build partly because the first foundation had to be torn out and redone.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
