Logstown, where Washington bargained for the Ohio Country

Present-day Baden covers the ground of Logstown, a mixed Native settlement of Seneca, Shawnee and Delaware that was the diplomatic centre of the upper Ohio. The 1752 Treaty of Logstown gave Virginia's Ohio Company its opening to the west. In late 1753 a 21 year old George Washington held councils here with Tanacharison and other leaders on his way to warn off the French, and the village was burned in 1754.
