Little Salt Spring, twelve thousand years down
10000 BC

An hourglass-shaped sinkhole where the water has no oxygen below about sixty feet, so wood, rope and brain tissue survive that would rot anywhere else. Divers found a giant land tortoise on a ledge with a sharpened wooden stake through it and a hearth alongside, a twelve-thousand-year-old meal, and among the oldest direct evidence of people in the Americas. A cemetery in the peat nearby held bodies with preserved brains.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
