Liberty State Park opens on a dead rail yard

Liberty State Park, Jersey City, New Jersey

The land was the Central Railroad's yards, the Black Tom depot and a good deal of harbour fill, all of it abandoned and derelict by the 1960s. New Jersey opened it as a state park on 14 June 1976 for the bicentennial. It is now the closest public ground to both the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, free to enter, in the middle of one of the densest cities in the country.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
