Matilda Laumeier left 72 acres to St. Louis County in 1968 in memory of her husband Henry, on the condition that the grounds not be turned into ball fields. In 1976 the artist Ernest Trova gave the county 40 of his works and the park opened that July. It now runs to 105 acres and more than 70 large outdoor sculptures, with the Laumeiers' 1917 stone house on the grounds.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
