Eero Saarinen sliced an eighth off a sphere and set the resulting thin concrete shell on three abutments, so the roof of MIT's auditorium touches the ground in only three places and the walls between are glass. Ground was broken in 1953 and it opened in 1955. It is named for the founder of the Kresge five and dime chain, the company that later became Kmart.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
