KNTU plays jazz for four decades from a tower north of Denton
1969
Denton, Texas
The University of North Texas put its student station on the air on 31 October 1969 at 88.5, and moved it to 88.1 ten years later. In 1981 it went to a jazz format and stayed there for about forty years, which is how a college town with the world's first jazz degree got a signal carrying the One O'Clock Lab Band across the whole Metroplex. The tower out here north of town is what gives a student station that reach. In 2022 the 88.1 signal switched to indie and the jazz moved to an HD channel and a stream.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
