Hungry Mother

Hungry Mother State Park, Marion, Virginia
Virginia State Parks staff · CC BY 2.0 · Wikimedia Commons
One of the six parks the Civilian Conservation Corps built to open Virginia's state park system on a single day in 1936, its lake and stone lodges still doing the job. The name comes from a story about a woman named Molly Marley escaping a raid with her child, who was found alone at the creek able to say only hungry mother. Nobody can source the tale, and everybody tells it.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
