The city spent about twenty two million dollars on a baseball complex seating 6,500, with parking for 3,900 cars and a 200 bed dormitory, to bring the Cleveland Indians down for spring training from 1993. Hurricane Andrew hit in August 1992 and wrecked it before a single spring game was played there. By the time it was repaired Cleveland had committed to Winter Haven instead. It sat largely unused for a quarter century before the city began pulling it down.
