The Goodwin brothers, who ran a brickworks in Tempe, put up this single storey Victorian cottage on the J.W. Harrington homestead in 1895. Mattie Birchett acquired it in 1904, and her son Joseph served as mayor of Tempe from 1912 to 1914. A later owner's work on birds led the US Fish and Wildlife Service to designate the property a federally protected bird sanctuary, which it stayed from 1940 until 1970. Arizona State University bought the house in 1989.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
