Hank Gathers collapses at Gersten Pavilion
1990
Westchester, Los Angeles, California
Loyola Marymount ran the fastest offence in college basketball under Paul Westhead and led the country in scoring three years running. On March 4, 1990, in a conference tournament game on the bluff campus, Hank Gathers dunked, started back up the floor and collapsed, and died of a heart muscle disorder at 23. His team went to the Elite Eight as an 11 seed, and Bo Kimble shot his first free throw of every tournament game left handed in his memory.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
