Grundy, the town that moved
2005

After the Levisa Fork flooded the business district again and again, the Army Corps of Engineers did not build a wall. It moved the town. Buildings came down, a mountainside was cut back, and the new commercial centre went up on higher ground with a Walmart perched on top of a four-storey parking garage, which is the only one of its kind anyone can point to. The project took two decades and cost more than the town was worth on paper.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
