Griffith left money for a public observatory on his donated land, insisting that looking through a telescope should be free. It has never charged admission, and more people have looked through its Zeiss refractor than any other in the world. Rebel Without a Cause staged its knife fight here in 1955, and La La Land dances up into the planetarium in 2016, the observatory has long meant the edge of the ordinary world on film.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
