Greenwood Cemetery, the pioneer burying ground of Birmingham
1825
Birmingham, Michigan
The first graves went into this half acre in 1825, six years after the first settlers reached the spot on the Saginaw Trail that became Birmingham. John West Hunter, the town's first resident, is buried here, and so is its only Revolutionary War veteran. In 2022 the National Park Service added the cemetery to its Underground Railroad network for two graves: abolitionist deacon Elijah Fish and George Taylor, who escaped slavery in Kentucky and settled in town.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
