Fordson Island, the island Dearborn did not know it owned
1918
Dearborn, Michigan
Ford Motor Company created this 8.4 acre island in 1918 while dredging a straighter channel through the Rouge, and Henry Ford gave the leftover land to Springwells Township. Liquor smugglers, small industry, a marina and a few residents used it over the following decades. The City of Dearborn did not become aware the island was inside its limits until 1980. It is mostly abandoned boats now.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
