Curtis High School, the first high school on Staten Island
1904
St. George, Staten Island, New York
Opened in February 1904, six years after the island was folded into New York City, this was the borough's first public high school. It is named for George William Curtis, the editor and orator who lived nearby and campaigned for civil service reform. The neo-Gothic building still runs as a public school, and its alumni include the novelist Lois Lowry and RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
