Perkins, Wheeler and Will designed this elementary school with Eliel and Eero Saarinen and opened it in 1940, shaping the building around progressive teaching instead of rows of desks. The American Institute of Architects gave it the Twenty-five Year Award in 1971 and it is now a National Historic Landmark. Sebastian Hinton's prototype jungle gym stood in the yard here from 1940 until it was moved to the Winnetka Historical Society in 2010.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
