Cornwallis calls Charlotte a hornet's nest

Cornwallis took the town but militia harried his men from behind every fence and he left within weeks, reportedly calling the place a hornet's nest of rebellion. Charlotte has used the hornet ever since, on the city seal, and on its basketball team.
