Cicero Stadium runs the Greek American basketball nationals for fifty years
1931
Cicero, Illinois
The town opened this arena in 1931 as a recreation hall for a suburb that worked in factories. From the late 1940s until 1998 it hosted the National Hellenic Invitational Basketball Tournament, the oldest Greek American tournament in the country, drawing around a thousand people a night for the Sunday men's semifinal. Roller derby took the building over afterwards, with the Windy City Rollers, the Chicago Outfit and a national roller sports team all based here. It still works as Cicero's community centre.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
