Chaplin put up an English village of a studio on an orange grove and worked there for over thirty years, shooting The Kid, City Lights and Modern Times on the lot. Two years later he and Pickford, Fairbanks and Griffith founded United Artists so that actors could own their own work, the studios' response was that the lunatics had taken over the asylum.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
