Celilo Falls drowned
March 10, 1957
Columbia River, Oregon
Public domain · Wikimedia Commons
People had fished this stretch of rapids for salmon for around 11,000 years, the longest continuously inhabited site in North America. The Dalles Dam closed its gates and the falls were under water in about six hours, with tribal elders watching from the bank.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
