Barretto Point Park and the Floating Pool Lady
2008
Hunts Point, The Bronx, New York

Hunts Point had a sand and gravel yard and an asphalt plant on this stretch of the East River, then decades of fill and illegal dumping, and neighbours used the contaminated shore anyway, calling it La Playita. The city cleaned it up and opened the park in 2006. Two years later a decommissioned cargo barge arrived carrying a seven lane, 25 metre swimming pool, the last working descendant of the floating baths New York moored in its rivers a century ago and the only one left in the country.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
