Balboa Park set aside
1868
San Diego, California

The city reserved 1,400 acres of chaparral for a park when it had barely 2,000 residents and no water to plant it with. Kate Sessions later took thirty acres for a nursery in exchange for planting a hundred trees a year, which is why it is green at all.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
