An aquarium in the last cannery
1984

Built in the shell of the Hovden cannery with money from the Packard family, around a tank nobody was sure would work: living kelp needs surge, so they built a machine to make waves and pumped raw seawater straight in from the bay. It changed what an aquarium was for, the sea otter programme, the first great white held and released, and the seafood card in a million wallets.
That was 1 of the hidden places.
